Where were you when...?
« on: December 08, 2010, 01:46:11 AM »
It seems that most of us are around a certain age...at least old enough to remember that fateful day when John Lennon was so senselessly murdered.

For me, it was the day the music died. Lennon has been, and continues to be, a huge influence on my life through his music, politics and philosophies. Part of my man cave at home is dedicated to his memory.

So, where were you when you heard the news that John Lennon was gone? Any special memories that you'd like to share? It was 30 years ago today; hard to believe.

I can't remember where I was. Isn't that strange. Remember all the details of the shooting and being so shocked, but that's it.

Don't remember exactly, I was in school...probably studying!
Here's a little tidbit for some of you that might like to try playing one of his songs:  "Imagine" is one of the easiest pieces to play on the piano...play along to his recording, turn it way up, and you'll be transported to another world, feel like you're right in there playing with him on stage.  It's glorious

I was at work.  Walked into the front office and the school secretary told me.  I was so shaken by the news that I took a sick day and went home.

I was living in Victoria, BC, enjoying all my indulgent habits, watching Monday night football. Then came this:

And my world was never quite the same again.

In loving memory of John Lennon - RIP

That hideous fateful day I was on a beach at La Samana in St. Maarten.  So many emotions came at me all at once...fury at Chapman, a sense of great loss personally as his music was such a big part of my life, and a profound sadness that the world had lost his talent, his beliefs, and his heart.

The world may have been a better place had he lived.  Imagine.

I was in nursing school at the time. I remember a good friend of mine showing up a the door with a bottle of student-priced wine (the high quality stuff) and tears in her eyes.  A group of us had a few slurps to John and went for a walk to the park. We sat on swings and talked about our favourite songs.

I appreciate him so much more now than when I was 19.
I was watching MNF with a couple of buddies tripping on window pane. After Howard broke the news, we tripped to the beatles all night long. Everyone had their lights on the next day when I got up and had breakfast @ 4pm.

I remember that too Tex, everyone driving with their lights on, during the day, in respect to him.
