How Vain Are You?
« on: February 07, 2012, 05:31:18 AM »
We talk about the sides with regards to how we feel so I thought we might share what changes have happened to how we look?

Someone said their eyelashes grew really long.  I lost most of my eyelashes but the stragglers that I do have are twice as long as they were and stick straight up.  Really weird look with mascara!
I gained 15 lbs during Incivek but lost 10 now already post.
My teeth turned grey!  Dry mouth probably but they are getting better now.  Rinse several times a day with Biotene.
My hair is thinner but so incredibly dry.  Only wash it once a week, just use conditioner daily. Instead of coloring, I cut the blonde off and now have spiky grey/brown hair.  Find myself wearing clothes that match the look when I am not in my sweats.
Finally was able to stop biting my nails!  My mouth has been so sore that I just stopped and now have really pretty nails!

Alright, finally a benefit to treatment.  Nice nails.

And of course we to tend to save on shampoo as well....

Fun huh?  :whistling:

O.K.  How about,  "Who's that zombie in the mirror look"  :ahhh: LOL.  Man, I used to think I was a pretty dapper looking dude but since starting this I look in the mirror and see this kind of pale, gray, well the best word I can think of is "zombie" looking back at me.  Don't zombies look like they could use about 4 pints of blood?

Oddly my eyelashes are longer (not complaining) since tx but my hair is falling out in clumps!  :ahhh:  I've colored it twice in the last 6 months, probably not a great thing to do but at least it made me look and feel better.

I have a lot scars all over my arms and legs from scratching due to the purple poison. My skin and scalp are incredibly dry too.

Every time someone hugs me, they comment how I've lost all of my muscle. I wasn't woking out at a gym before tx but I was always doing something physical. It is hard for me to sit still at times. My weight has basically stayed the same. Family members have mentioned that I look tired, which is their polite way of saying, I look like ! :Ouch!:

~Thankfully it will not always be like this, there is a light at the end of this long tunnel.

Oh yes, forgot about the scars on my arms from digging and scratching!  I knew the guys would get in on this one too, haha.  I like the dapper look, how about sexy vampire instead of zombie?

Yeppers nookster -vampires are def "in"right now.

Janet - please skip the mascara for now. Nothing calls attention ot "something is going on" more than one long eyelash poking everybody when you say hello.

Judith -I lost all my muscle too, felt like rubberband girl. Tired?  :sideways: :sideways: :sideways:   I was tired during tx. Still tired somewhat. You probably ARE tired.   Doesn't mean you look terrible. Put on your skinny jeans girl.

It will be okay you guys.
You'll be back to better than normal soon.

Yikes! Did 24 wk clinical trial with Lambda Interferon. UND at week 12 & 24. Relapsed after one month. No VL test at weeks 4 & 8. I would get myself tested at week 4 and 8 next time I treat if the doc doesn't order it.

This is probably is to much information but here goes. My 11 yr old wanted to go out to a fancy restaurant for his birthday and then to an animal show at his school. So we went last Friday, to dinner first, that was my first mistake. By the time we got to the school I had had to run to the first bathroom I saw (which was the boys). I was so embarrassed all I could do was sit there and cry. No dignity left.

Grey skin to match my grey hair, eyebrows gone, grew my hair longer to disguise the thinning, which was already an issue at age 61. I was actually kind of glad when people started saying " you don't look so good" because I felt like crap. Muscle gone, but gained weight. Now, 3 weeks post tx, I am feeling and looking better, hair is starting to grow back ( also lost the heavy fur from my legs ). Ready to start fitness program to get back in shape. The plan is to be better than before treatment. Vanity has never been a big deal for me, if my wife can stand to look at me, I don't really care about the rest of the world.   Kirk

I look like crap, feel like crap, at least I smell good, har har. Hair is thinning, and if it keeps going I'll be bald before too long : ( My hair is wavy/curly so I'm telling myself that pushing it around just so wont make the thinning too noticable.
The cancer chemo therapy tip is to cut hair shorter, haven't done that. Using BioSilk to make it look less dry. Not coloring right now. I bought some vegetable hair dye but too lazy to use it. Look like a mongrel dog.

For the dark circles under my eyes I bought some jip eye cream which of course isn't doing jack. Started using concealer and an eyebrow pencil.
I probably look like a freak with white stripes under my eyes and brown ones above.

These rashy bumps better go away before it's summer clothes time. Ugh

Eyelashes are OK and seem to be longer.

Woman do have the advantage in that we are allowed to wear make up.

Loosing the fatsivek weight, but also muscle and strength.

Ain't life grand?

What's wrong with dapper? I use it all the time. Spry sounds ageist tho. How do you like 'jaunty?'
