Brain Fog and Depression
« on: January 30, 2012, 06:14:46 PM »
I thought I was just depressed and stupid but maybe not? I read somewhere that these are symptoms of chronic Hep C? How much of a connection is there? Thanks, Herb

there is a lot of anectodotal and increasing clinical evidence to support the idea that HCV slows brain function ("brain fog") and contributes to depression. This link was recently posted in the Heralding Chamber News Forum. If has several articles related to HCV and mental function.

I also take antidepressants and find them helpful.

Has anyone out there experienced any feelings of just not thinking as clearly as in the past or sort of mixed up when trying to figure things out? Making mistakes? I think maybe I have been dealing with this for twenty years and it's drained my confidence. I don't think I could do half of the intellectual pursuits I did when I was younger. Im hoping that the knowledge that this could be being caused by Hep C will help me feel a little bit better about it. I've often wondered what the hell was going on with my mind.

It definitely could be the Hep C causing the slowed thinking so have hope.

I was experiencing the same thing prior to starting treatment 14 weeks ago, and now I'm not experiencing the brain fog.  I can't say for sure it was the Hep C (I'd been wondering if it was hormones) but I can say for sure that my thinking has cleared since being on treatment.  Keep the faith, a lot of things will change for the better after you get the  :dragon: out of your body.   peace

You know, it's funny but I just thought I had a short attention span for all of these years.  Now that I am 16 weeks into treatment, I can remember names!  I do think I am getting smarter, haha!
