NEW DRUGS IN CANADA
« on: October 27, 2010, 11:32:33 AM »
I just got off the phone with my gp nurse. about the new drug treatment. She said It'll be approved and ready late 2011 in the U.S.A. but it takes a extra two years to be approved in Canada which is like three years from now  :Ouch!:  Does anyone know if that would be true.?

Can't say i know the answer to that one question Al, but what i do know is alot of medical procedures done in the US are considered radical procedures in Canada and therefor the Canadian health system does sometimes take a wait and see approach so it would not suprise me if that were true. I think it sucks but I'm sure  there is legitimate concern at times . I also understand the need to "fast track' new drugs is huge but at what risk of harm?
I know the last conversation i had with my hep c nurse about new TX drugs , she told me that at the seminar she attended in T.O.(last June) they were led to believe new options of treating would be available late 2011.

Al, I think we had a post about this some months ago. I asked my NP then and he didn't think it would be that long after the States cleared it; 6 months maybe. I would think 2 years is a bit of a stretch.

I'll see what I can find out.

Al,

When the new meds are approved in the US, we will just have to adopt our Canuck members into our homes so that you can get tx here. I for one have a spare room that I would let you come and stay here for however long it takes. My door is always open.

Al,

Just a thought, our Cunuck neighbors take a leave from work. They come here and of course are low income because they are not working. Patient assistance is available to them and the pharms will provide meds.

I know, a little sneaky, but depending on how soon you really need to treat I think it would be worth it.

.
My Hep dr. sayed before I did my tx last year I was  type 1 and had little fat on the liver but since then I was about 70 lbs overweight and only due to me having hep for 30  or more years   he put me as stage 2. So im guessing I have time to wait for new tx. MY ONLY CONCERN IS  i'll be 60 then Hope age
is not a huge factor ? im trying to really take care of myself .

Al,

Sounds like you will be okay and you know how to stay liver healthy. Hang tight my friend.
