Started New Treatment
« on: January 17, 2012, 02:03:20 AM »
Hey, Guys wish and hope all had a good Xmas and New Year. I've started the New treatment last week I'm on Victrelis(boceprevir) and normal old treatment of peg and rib. Doing Peg and Rib for 4 weeks then leaning into the new drug on 5th week. Dr says treatment duration will depend all on how well the drug works at the beginning so could be 24-48weeks.

So here we go round 3 hopefully will all work out this go around.

Yikes! Did 24 wk clinical trial with Lambda Interferon. UND at week 12 & 24. Relapsed after one month. No VL test at weeks 4 & 8. I would get myself tested at week 4 and 8 next time I treat if the doc doesn't order it.

Thanks guys for all the support. And yes I'm drinking tons of water. Only thing different is the new drug which will start in a few weeks and taking it on a timely manner of 8am 4pm and 12am and making sure I don't ever miss on that time line. The Dr feels really good on that treatment will work since I did respond with old treatment just hadn't suppressed it enough Viral Load to 0. Was always hovering around 20-40 Viral Load.

Wish everyone well that is on treatment currently or thinking about it. Recovery is a process and we are all here for each other at all stages.

Best wishes, Swisher!

I just completed the 28-week Boceprevir regimen. Some positive thoughts:

* Initially, I was concerned about flawlessly keeping up with the 8 hr, round-the-clock routine. My life is full of distractions. Fortunately, I never went longer than 8 1/2 hours between doses. My annoying Victrelis chime on my phone went off without fail at 6 am, 2 pm and 10 pm, which helped. Technology is a good thing.
* I had trouble sleeping during the 4-week lead in because Ribavirin made me a little jumpy. Boceprevir, on the other hand, made me slightly groggy, which conteracted the other drug somewhat. I started sleeping a little better after week 5.
* Most important, the stuff really works.

Hope this is helpful.

TakkiC,
Thanks for the insight. I have been wondering a bit on the side effects of Boceprevir. I plan on doing my meds on every 8th hour so gives me 1 hour space just incase. My plan is the same alot of alarms.

What did you have as a snack ? any ideas  Cause I know with this I always have to eat something with it. I still have a few weeks till I start. on the triple.

Glad it worked out well for you good stuff!

Unlike Telaprevir, a light snack -- 100 calories -- will suffice with Boceprevir. I'd usually choke down my 6 am with a glass of milk and would eventually eat breakfast. For the 2 pm, I kept fruit and cereal bars or Rice Krispy treats in the cooler of water that always rode with me. Eventually, I ended up eating lunch at this time most days. At 10 pm, I was usually home and would eat whatever appealed to me at the moment.
