Jim:
I'm sorry to hear of your struggles. I believe I have a good idea how you feel.
I donated at a blood drive at my daughter's school. Two weeks later, I received a letter stating that I had tested positive for Hep C.
I was immediately sickened and dumbfounded. I, too, interpreted the news as a death sentence. Worse yet, I was worried that I had passed this thing on to my family. I felt dirty . . . and repulsed by my own body.
Much of what I read was initially confusing, ambiguous and complicated.
A diagnosis is not a death sentence, as others have stated. Hep C is usually a patient, slow moving disease. It is a serious condition that requires serious attention; nevertheless, immediate treatment may not be warranted. Simple precautions will prevent its transmission.
The others have given you sound advice. Don't panic. Find the right doctor. Get a biopsy. Become informed.
As always, a healthy lifestyle goes a long way. I had probably carried the virus for 25 to 30 years before learning of my condition. I truly believe that 15 years of healthy living -- regular exercise, decent enough diet, no drugs, no cigs and NO ALCOHOL -- had minimized the progression of the disease.
Laughter helps, too

Best wishes!
