Update - Gilead Pharm Clinical Trial
« on: November 24, 2011, 12:28:57 PM »
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.  I had previously posted some encouraging info about Gilead Pharmacies trial I am in.

Here's the original Post.

Gilead Pharmacies Clinical Trials

I am in a clinical trial being run by Gilead pharmacies.  All oral.  Mine is in San Diego but I believe they are recruiting across the country.  I have had virtually no side effects.  I found mine through my doctor at Kaiser. You don't have to be a Kaiser member to enroll but mine just happens to be being run at a Kaiser clinic.

I take:

9am
3 - GS-5885 (experimental)
2 - GS-9451 (experimental)
3 - Ribavarin
1 - Tegobuvir (experimental)

9pm
2 - Ribavarin
1-  Tegabuvir (experimental)

I have level 3+ cirrhosis and have had hepC over 40 years.  My viral load was about 5 million but the clinical trial set a baseline count of 800,000. (I guess they do their own math)

After one week the 800,000 baseline count has dropped to 179.  Not 179,000.  Actually 179.  This was great news!!!!

I just searched for HepC clinical trials San Diego and found the gov clinical trials site that others have already mentioned.  I really believe it is the way to go for many reasons.  Costs, better care, fewer sides and the folks I am working with are great.

Look at
http://clinicaltrials.gov/

and do a search in there for Gilead or for the area you live in if you think this might be a good course for you.  I'm sure it's not for everyone, but so far, things seem to be working out better than I expected.

I wish you much success with your search.

God bless.

There are 4 others in my trial group in San Diego and some still are holding undetectable.

Unfortunately, mine went from undetectable to 370 and then to over 4,000 so on Monday I will be dropping the Tegabuvir and getting my first injection.

So I'll be doing:

Inteferon - 1 injection a week

Daily
9am
3 - GS-5885 (experimental)
2 - GS-9451 (experimental)
3 - Ribavarin

9pm
2 - Ribavarin

Just keeping you posted.  I asked my nurse if I would still be eligible for other trials in the future and she indicated that because I was in a trial using experimental drugs already that I would not be eligible because the clinical trials are looking for failed responses to Inteferon/Ribavarin treatment or untreated patients.

Not folks who have already received and not remained undetecable using experimental treatments.  Just wondering if anybody had any other info about getting into 2nd trial after already being in one using experimetal drugs.

Sorry for the long post.  God bless and Happy Thanksgiving.

Mike
