HCV Support's 4th Annual Hepper's Retreat 2012!
« on: November 15, 2011, 05:39:42 AM »
OK, our faithful members, its time to work on finalizing the plans on holding our 4th Annual Hepper's Retreat so all who wish to attend have time to plan for it.

HCV Support's 3rd Annual Heppers Retreat 2011
Hepper Hula

I don't want to mention names but many people went all out making sure that everyone was cared for, and that the weekend was a success.  All that effort sure wasn't lost on me.  It was like coming home and while I had never met anybody in person there was an immediate connection and bond.
If you like it on the board....... you'll LOVE it on the retreat.  This is the one time that retreating can be fun.

When last discussed and voted upon, "greginky" was willing to act as our 2012 host for the event at "Mammoth Caves Resort" in the great state of Kentucky. I know a lot has gone on since this discussion... TREATMENT for one. If you are still willing and able to act as the 2012 host greg, please reply and let us know so we can begin further planning. If things have changed since last discussed its not a problem, we do have a contingency plan in place of returning to the "Basswood Resort" in Platte City, MO for holding the retreat.

I will be continuing talks with Alan Franciscus from HCV Advocate on holding a day long "Train the Trainer" program at the retreat for those who would like take part in a great educational course for being an advocate for those dealing with HCV. For those in the medical field, the course is CME accredited. All with receive course certification for participating. The plan is to hold the training course on the Saturday of the retreat to be followed by our always great "Hepper's Feast" BBQ.

Last year we had a great turn out of members from all across the nation from Massachusetts to Alaska. Our hope is to have many more attend this coming year.... especially many of the new members who have joined our great online community since our last retreat in June of 2011.

So who wants to go? ...... Let us know by voting in the poll above. (NOTE: Your vote can be changed in the poll as needed, so please update your status as needed up to the time of the retreat.)

Looking forward to another great retreat event!

I thought the Kentucky site was too basic.  But am still interested.

I would love to attend. I feel I already know so many of you. Unfortunate as it may be, that's a pretty nice haul for me. God I love parties. Guess I will have to wait and see where the location is gonna be. I am not beyond flying, but I haven't flown since beforr 9/11. Not sure I wanna do the tsa bull. If someone from the the east  coast wanted to kalaka(who remembers what that is) I may be interested. Not sure wife would let me travel with a shemale. I harmless, but that would not bode well with her. Shes having to take time off in march to attend  daughters wedding. I'm not going, just took her five years ago. Not going to Texas every six years for a wedding. Bought Me a hat to wear to Texas, hat lasted, marriage did not. Guess just maybe me. I also have a school age son. Yes I have children from 31 to 11.

I think KY is out, none of the places that would be nice here are within hours of airports.

Think returning to Platte City, Missouri is the best bet. Joe and Susan are willing to host again, its real close to the airport, and was a great relaxing location.

Am starting a clinical trial on 21 Dec.   Would love to go if I could.   Would be great to be with a bunch of people like me who party hard for half an hour and then take a nap!!

Ruba, LOVE the idea of a hepper cruise!!!   In fact been thinking of going on one if and when I am cured all by myself - but to go with a bunch of heppers like me would be FUN even if I am still going through treatment (I do get two to four weeks of not having to turn up a Johns Hopkins as the treatment goes on).  I am English (I bet you never would have guessed) and we like to PARTY like it's 1699 (quoting from Weird Al Yankovic here, but my taste in music is often not quite as sophisticated).

We have set the 4th Annual Hepper's Retreat to be held June 22-25, 2012 at the Basswood Resort in Platte City, Missouri. Full information will be made available on our site as well as Facebook page just following 1/1/2012. Our goal is to have as many HCV Support members, and those from neighboring support sites, attend making it the biggest retreat to date. So, set the dates on your calendar and we look forward to seeing everyone who is able to attend.

Note: I have spoken with Alan Franciscus from the Hepatitis C Support Project (HCV Advocate) on holding their FREE Hepatitis C Training Workshop (Train the Trainer) and it is set to be held on Saturday June 23, 2012 from 8:AM - 5:00 PM (lunch & snacks included) at the Pavilion of the Basswood Resort. This is a great educational program and extremely fun too. Those participating and passing the program will be certified by HCSP as Basic HCV Educators and receive a very comprehensive manual and other educational tools at no cost. The program is funded by an unrestricted educational grant from Genentech Pharmaceuticals.

Yes, Alan Franciscus will be running the course and you will get to meet the man behind HCV Advocate.org and all the resources they have provided for years to those affected by hepatitis C.
