My Doctor is an Angel!
« on: November 03, 2011, 08:04:10 PM »
I have to tell you guys that everyone that has had or is having problems with their doctor, you should move to Portland, OR. and go see my doctor!  He called me to discuss my bloodtest results and said we should be starting tx. the end of Nov. or 1st of Dec. and during the conversation he asked me if I had insurance.  I said no and (I swear to God) this is what he said.  " Do not worry about paying me.  I am not worried about getting paid. I am only worried about seeing that you get the tx. that you need to get well.  My staff will help you fill out forms to get the meds. paid for and will fill out forms for the lab so that you can get a discount on that.  They will also give you a list of other places that will help with your medical costs.  All I want you to concern yourself with is getting well."  Now!  In all my 52 yrs. on this planet I have NEVER had a doctor say "don't worry about paying me".  Do I have the best doctor in the world or what?????

Yes, Greyrocker, I did  when he said those things.  I told him that I believe that God sent me to him to save my life.  That I would forever be in his debt.  He said that his wife doesn't say such nice things about him. I told him to go home and tell her that there was 1 old woman in Washougal, WA that thinks he's the cat's meow.  He thought that was funny.LOL

Forget just doctors...this renews my faith in HUMANITY!!!  You really lucked out Cheryl!  This coming from someone who couldn't get meds to relieve my pulmonary hypertension because ins. wouldn't cover it and the doctor refused to give me the meds without the extra tests....even though she had plenty of test results to know exactly what was causing it.  She covered her own arse first, forget about me.

Tell me, is this guy still with his wife, cuz he's a keeper!!

Good for you girl!

I can totally relate. My dr, is an id ,man.(infectious disease). He has never charged me in 2 years and has calle din favors all over town to get me ready to treat and then one of his nurse's (we are well acquainted, now) guided me thru the maze of patient assistance programs. I took advantage of all three opportunities to acquire the drugs.  He said if i ever need to go into the hospital he would admit me as a charity case. He calls, text's and generally wants to treat and help find a cure. yes it's nice to have some sense of decency restore in mankind . Almost makes the tx that much better w/all we goo thru to get to the other side. congrats to you and fight the fight. never give up, never give in.

I love hearing that, Cheryl.  Your doc sounds like an awesome individual, and I'm so glad that you'll be able to focus on treatment and not have to worry about $$.  There are some good guys (and gals) out there!   :) :)

We've had some posts about terrible doctors and good doctors. I've read some stuff here where people are paying huge co-pays for their meds. And for sure there are docs who order every test they can think of to pad their pockets (in part b/ the insurance companies will not reimburse them at a fair rate). That's when we have to educate ourselves and just say no to unnecessary tests when appropriate. But it's the insurance companies I hate. The doctors and employers get put in the bun by those profitable corporations. Don't know enough about how the health care system works in Canada but in the US, it is an unconscionable shame.

You guys are sooooo right.  I did get lucky.  Can you believe that I just picked his name out of a phone book? Cali, not sure about his marital status at this point, but I will keep you and my daughter informed of any changes.LOL Steph, it is a shame that people in the U.S. have to go without life saving treatment because the costs are so extreme and doctors have stopped focusing on the patient and only focus on their pocketbooks.

Sometimes I feel that living in a society based on greed, profit, and consumerism is not working that well anymore in the USA, but I wouldn't live anywhere else right now. My caregiver is a PA-C rather than PHD, and she also told me not to worry about cost. I DO have insurance, and there was still a chance of $20,000 per month. Insurance did agree to cover all but $1,000. My PA said call Vertex (Incivek manuf.) and they agreed to cover all the copay. I guess they are OKAY with the $16,000 my insurance is paying. The biggest expense so far has been the blood labs. Please keep us posted on your expenses. I know some people without insurance that would love to be treated.   Kirk
