DjTurtle Treatment Update
« on: October 05, 2011, 01:42:45 AM »
Hi all,

Haven't been on the site as mush as I usually am due to side effect complications with Dj.

Dj is presently in week 14 of 24 weeks of triple therapy treatment. During week 8 with Incivek she started developing the typical rash side effect of it. By week 10 the rash covered approximately 80% of her body. Resembled a severe sun burn and in many places was very very red. Her doctor put her on steroid cream to help relieve the rash and its insane itch. This helped keep the rash at bay until she finish her Incivek regiment at week 12, and was told the rash should then slowly begin to clear once she is no longer taking the Incivek.

Well, at week 14 the rash remains the same and has begun to become painful to the touch and swelling has begun, especially around her face and arms. She is also experiencing symptoms of dementia. When I went to give her her peginterferon injection she kept rolling up her sleeve and giving me her arm. I'd tell her the injection goes in her stomach not her arm, and she say, "I know!" and then give me her arm again. She looses track of time, days, etc. Has me very worried.

I called her doctor to have her seen immediately and she will be going to the hospital in Boston tomorrow morning to be seen by her doctor, and will most likely be admitted in order to find the source of the problem and resolve it.

Will update as I know more.

Oh man, that's just terrible, news. Poor Dawn, I'm very sorry to read this, Wayne.

Please know that she (and you) are in my thoughts; I hope that you get answers and some relief tomorrow.

Give her my regards.  For you as well as caregiver.

I know there isn't, but if there is anything I can do to help, please ask.

Whoa!! That is a major bummer. She seems to have really reacted to tele which can be tough on the immune system. Hope that now she is off, she can improve.
Hang in there, teleprivir can be rough, but it works.
