20 Ways to Get Good Karma
« on: October 05, 2010, 03:17:28 PM »
I came across this recently and printed it out for my home office/man cave. Hope you like it too.

20 Ways to Get Good Karma
By The Dalai Lama

Instructions for Life

1.Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
2.When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
3.Follow the three R’s:
-  Respect for self,
-  Respect for others and
-  Responsibility for all your actions.
4.Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
5.Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
6.Don’t let a little dispute injure a great relationship.
7.When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
8.Spend some time alone every day.
9.Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.
10.Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11.Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and
think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.
12.A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13.In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.
14.Share your knowledge. It is a way to achieve immortality.
15.Be gentle with the earth.
16.Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.
17.Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
18.Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
19.If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.
20.If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

Well, I've been called a lot of things in my life, but Conservative sure as heck ain't one of them. I think they are just good suggestions to live by for everyone. I'll leave the political debates to some different forum.

I could have worded this comment better than I did, and I agree they are good suggestions for everyone.

Awesome suggestions.... I especially liked number 4. Thank God I didn't get some of the things I prayed the hardest for.

It's a BIG SECRET, but the Dalai Lama is landing at the Airport where I work...and
as I work in Security, I've asked if I can kinda 'tag' along.  I just want to look at him...maybe
I just know that my luck, contentment, peace, love, blah blah will all come to be!

You never know, I may even get to (OMG) shake his hand or something...but I'll
settle for some of his KARMA!

I only go to see my hotties, i.e. the Rolling Stones rented a hangar in the restricted areas to practice (that was great!); Richard Gere was making a movie, I watched a few takes and got sooo close the camera crew had to ask me to move back (lol) and the best one was seeing my Tommy (Cruise)!

on a side note:  a brief story from my past.

when I was around 12 or 13, I was in my room being the moody young teenager I was, playing some Beatles music.  Having been born in Liverpool, but not being back since I left at the ripe old age of 8 months, I felt a kinship to the group through association of birth.
Well there I am listening to Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields etc.  My mother comes in and asks to listen to both those songs again, so I replayed each and she begins to tell me she knows both those areas - Penny Lane was an area that her parents would go shopping before the war and during the war, they moved to Woolton (a small town outside of Liverpool) to get away from the bombs and she and her brother would go to Strawberry Field to play - it was a Salvation Army home - but her dad did not like her going there, the local kids were thugs (read John Lennon and friends) and since they were Catholic, he thought the Salvation Army would try to convert them to Anglican.
Needless to say, after hearing these storied, I was much more amazed at the life my mother had led in the 30's and 40's.
