Funny... I just asked that exact question!  I hadn't thought of peanut butter, but that's a good idea.  I think cheese.  I was researching it on line, and will report back with my suggestions/findings.

Vertex suggests bagel with cream cheese in their handout, or a couple tablespoons of peanut butter. This is one part of treatment I'm not going to have trouble with

LOL such a problem! I think hot fudge sundaes might work. Didn't they say 20 g of fat? I'll be shooting that interferon everywhere to keep the blubber down!

You're also supposed to take the Riba with a little fat. My problem would be stopping at 2 tablespoons, I can eat a whole jar at a time.

Yep, 20 gram fat w/incivek.

Planters has snack trail mix/niut packs.  The hearthealthy one has 22g fat.

Total of 60g fat per day to take pills alone? 540 calories from fat alone.  I spent three years losing weight, this is going to be amusing.  My normal breakfast is either nothing or a blueberry muffin and expresso.  Hmmm guess I can look on Dunkin's webslite for fat content.

Still nuts and cheese, neither of which I'm supposed to eat but both of which I eat a lot, will have to do.

BTW this is being sent while I'm waiting for hematologist in prep for tx.

Here's what Vertex recommends on their Medication Guide.  I will definitely indulge myself for breaksfast with things like bacon & eggs,  Dunkin Donuts, croissants, and danish pastries.  With the second dose maybe a little healthier choice like coconuts and avocados, fruit smoothies non-fat yogurt.  We will have to take doses 7-9 hrs apart so for me my third dose will be at night around 9-10 pm.  I may just down 3 tbs of peanut butter or coconut oil and be done with it because I can't eat late at night.  I'm sure I'll figure it figure it out.

"Patients should be advised that the dose of INCIVEK must not be reduced or interrupted, as it may increase the possibility of treatment failure.
The recommended dose of INCIVEK tablets is 750 mg (two 375-mg tablets) taken orally 3 times a day (7-9 hours apart) with food containing approximately20 grams of fat. Patients should be advised that the fat content of the meal or snack is critical for the absorption of telaprevir. Food that is taken with INCIVEK should be ingested within 30 minutes prior to each INCIVEK dose. Examples of some foods that could be taken with INCIVEK include: a bagel
with cream cheese, ½ cup nuts, 3 tablespoons peanut butter, 1 cup ice cream, 2 ounces American or cheddar cheese, 2 ounces potato chips, or ½ cup trail mix."

Well there's a positive in the event I would have to retreat, I'd get to enjoy REAL cheese, not the lowfat kind!  I wonder if you lose weight with these meds too?  I lost over 30 pounds this round of tx with the peg/riba and i"m still losing because I have absolutely NO appetite.

Banarep,

I'm assuming you were in a Telaprevir trial yes?  Did the trial protocol include taking Tela with high fat foods?

I can't recall ever seeing anyone who was in a trial post that they had to take the Telaprevir with 20 grams of fat.  Seems like I would have remembered something like that.  Don't know how I missed it.

It's interesting that Merck advises Victrelis (Boceprevir) be taken with food but fat grams are not issue whereas the bioavailability of Telaprevir (Incivek) hinges on 20 grams of fat.

Effects of Food on Oral Absorption
VICTRELIS should be administered with food. Food enhanced the exposure of boceprevir by up to 65% at the 800 mg three times daily dose, relative to the fasting state. The bioavailability of boceprevir
was similar regardless of meal type (e.g., high-fat vs. low-fat) or whether taken 5 minutes prior to eating, during a meal, or immediately following completion of the meal. Therefore, VICTRELIS may be taken
without regard to either meal type or timing of the meal.

Wow, I was reading up on good fats, read this article on Avocados. Especially the 4th and 5th paragraphs. I am going to have to try Avocados if they help lower bad cholesterol and raise the good, and in only one week.

eating 3 times a day on tx?!? what planet are these people from??? I'd go without eating for three DAYS last time I did this.

Nutella is awesome (Had some last night!) and Brown Cow 'cream on top" vanilla yogurt is bomb. I'm also thinking about throwing down a few capsules of omega 3-6-9 with the incivek. That all sounds good on paper but, honestly, I am really worried about keeping down enough food. 1600 cal;ories with 20% fat is more food than I eat now and I've been like this for 5 years. I don't even want to think about this one. Like waking up every 8 hours isn't enough.
