Greginky -

My goal was to get on tx as soon as school got out (I teach high school) so that most of my 12 week crazy every 8 hour meds w/20 g of fat schedule would be over before it started back up again in August.  It sounds very difficult to manage.  I'm going to shoot for 7, 3 & 11.  My big concern is the 11 pm one.  Eat what at 11?  And on tx, I'm usually asleep by then.  I'll need to wake up, eat, dose, & go back to bed, I guess.

Anyway, that's my worry ... staying on schedule with that kind of diet to manage with school.

Hope you get your meds on July 5th, did you say?  All the best to everyone.  Go forth and conquer!

I should be starting round 2 July 1st. Like many people here ... I am excited but it seems to be a bittersweet moment because I am also dreading it.   :uncertain: I am/was underinsured and received patient assistance on all my medication! (Just got notified today.)
For all you round two-ers this may be a silly question but I am going to ask it anyway. When injecting the pegasys is it absolutely necessary after inserting the needle to pull back on the needle to make sure you haven't hit a blood vessel? I inject into my stomach area and I don't think there is a lot of blood vessels there??? I realize the severity of  not getting the medication injected directly into my bloodstream but just wonder what is the chance of injecting
directly into a blood vessel?  It seems so much easier to just stick the needle in and inject it. I was treated before for 70 weeks so you would think I would know the answer to this question. I asked my doc but he seemed "evasive" in his answer and of course the pegasys people said it was necessary. It was hard to me to stick the needle in, pull back, then inject. I HATE needles.  :Ouch!:

funny tex.  I know what you mean about quitting pulling back, no real reason.

It is absolutely not necessary to check it isn't even advised except for IM shots in the thigh.  Heck hospitals don't do it.

Well, I am not qualified to give medical advice. But I am an insulin dependent diabetice. I take 2 shots of insulin a day and I NEVER pull back. I never did it with the Pegasys either.

Great thread here Greginky.  Thanks for starting this.  I don't have an appointment yet with my doctor, regarding starting round 2, but when I got my relapse results last month, he told me to call him at the end of June to discuss the next step.

What is the fat source issue?  I either haven't read enough yet on Telaprevir or missed that info.  Do you need extra fat in the diet while taking Telaprevir?  What about the Boceprevir?  Thanks.

Mags1310, I did always check for blood while injecting, but it probabaly wasn't necessary as I never hit a blood vessel.  I think it's just precautionary.

Hey Pete, The makers of Telaprevir say to take 20mg of fat with each dose. I don't know about Boceprevir. There is a thread here on it. Here is the link  http://hcvsupport.org/forum/index.php/topic,2398.0.html

Victrelis (Boceprevir) needs to be taken with food, no fat requirement like Incivek.

Thanks Tex 23 (112 shots!!  :Ouch!: ), Banarep, Doug, Alice, Greginky, and Peteman2 for your responses on the needle issue. I could never get a straight answer from anyone here and since I am about to begin treatment I really don't wanna pull back on the needle... so everyone made me feel so much better about it! Thanks!!

But I will be here for any moral support you need I am looking at a late August be beginning if nothing happens sooner. I am getting ready to call my GI and see if I can get on the cancellation list so that maybe I can get started sooner

Well, time to fish or cut bait.  Pharmacy called, shipped my new meds yesterday, will be herer today, 6/17.  I really want to wait until fall to start, I'd really like to feel pretty good for the rest of the summer to enjoy my family and grandchildren some before I dive back into the poison.  Anyone have an opinion about that? What would you do?

hanginin,
I had the same thought, but also kind of think summer activity may help to take my mind off the side effects. In the winter, I don't get out much and would just
sit and brew about it at home. (I think!) Anyway, my meds come next Tuesday, but am going to wait til after the Retreat before I start. I guess the retreat will be
a celebration party before I dive into this round of treatment! Good luck to you! Keep us posted!
