Hey BR, I guess the good thing is that if I am UND at 4 weeks I will only have to do 24 weeks, at least that is what the nurse for my GI said. I hope it is true. I have an appointment set for July 27th

Well, I ate the first Avocado of my life today. It was kind of bland but palatable at least. I have decided with all of my research that I have done that this is going to be my fat source to use with the Telaprevir. I have read studies about it lowering your cholesterol because the fat in it is the good kind. I don't want to take statins since they are so hard on the Liver so when I found out about the Avocado I had to try it. I guess I will learn to like it, it really wasn't that bad, as I said, kind of bland, but I will find ways of incorporating it , maybe with my protein shake in the blender.

Well, I drink lemon juice daily already. I mix the concentrate with water and sweeten with Stevia, I drink that instead of cola. It is a good way to keep the water intake high and the carbs and artificial sweeteners low.

Greg,
I make a very strong green tea with ginger slices---bring about 1-2 qts of water to a boil. Add a couple of handfuls of green tea leaves and about a 1-2" piece of ginger sliced or chopped up. I let it steep for as much as an hour or even more.

Then I make something like you do with the lemon juice and stevia....

These are all approximate measures--- it doesn't matter so much if it's exactly right.

1 part tea concentrate, 1 part unsweetened juice (lemon, pomegranate, cranberry and Concord grape are my favorites),  and 2 or more parts water. I sweeten with stevia to taste.

I use this juice-tea for just regular consumption of fluids. For some reason, this tea makes me feel better. I also drink a lot of it when I fast-- but I only fast for 1-3 days and definitely NOT while on tx. When I'm fasting, I do not feel hunger with this tea and for me, it's a great way to get back on track with my food. Sort of a first step to getting back on track with a healthy diet.

Good luck with the avocados Greg. I can't imagine eating an avocado for breakfast, even tho I love them! However, I'd eat avocado  for lunch or dinner in a salad with an olive oil-based salad dressing...if someone took the effort to makes it for me!  Eating on tx is a major problem for me. I do intend to increase my fat content using a variety of fat sources, including Omega 3-6-9 complex capsules. I am absolutely not happy about this requirement for eating so much food with fat in it. I know it's only about 1600 calories a day but I have a hard time doing that even when I'm not on tx. What a a pain.  :blushing:

good luck to you all on the Round Two Crew!

shalice

Hey Alice, I plan on making some Almond butter soon and trying it. I am thinking a couple tablespoons of that at breakfast for the fat, and Avocados for lunch and dinner. I remember reading in one of your posts about you being concerned with getting enough protein. I have been using protein powder since I started lifting weights. Last night a friend of mine who is a nurse put me on to an excellence source. I had been using the Whey protein, which is very expensive. She told me about a brand(Source Naturals brand) of Pea Protein that she buys at Whole Foods for about $8 to $15 a pound. 2 tablespoons gives about 14 grams of protein and only 1 carb. As with all protein powders it has the full of the full spectrum of Amino acids which is one of the main reasons I use it. If you google the term Master Antioxidant you will find information on Glutithione. You can buy it as a supplement but that is no good. It is contained in almost every cell of the body and must be made inside of the cells from the 3 Amino Acids, Glycine, Glutamate, and Cysteine. It is supposed to help with energy, which it seems to do with me, so that is why I have been taking the protein powder. It also contains all of the Branch Chain Amino Acids as well. The reason I switched from the Whey Protein to the Pea Protein is because Whey is a milk byproduct and as such is most likely full of growth hormones. The Pea Protein is also cheaper and is non-GMO. A pound of Pea Protein has 48 servings in it and is way cheaper than the more well known Whey Protein products.

One thing I can say about having Hep C is that it has made me so much more aware and knowledgeable of the body and how it works. I am currently reading Dr Oz's book  "You on a Diet", it seems like an awesome resource for the type of knowledge I am seeking. I am learning so much about health and I know that I will benefit for the rest of my life about what I am learning. I am currently trying to switch to more of a Mediterranean type of diet for the health benefits. Avocados are supposed to help with Cholesterol problems, I will let you know my results in a few weeks when I go back to have mine checked again. Oh yeah, I am also educating my Dr, he is great, how many would listen to the Complimentary and Alternative methods?

I see my dr July 8th and hope to start round 2 shortly after that.  I tried to get in earlier, but he wanted to wait so wait I did.  Waiting seems to be the norm for us so it hasn't been too bad.  Can't wait to start though.  Let's beat this  :dragon:

Great news Woujer. I am jealous, I have to wait till July for my Dr Appointment then maybe a month after that. But, at least I won't have to do it during the hot months. Bad thing for me is that I will probably start treatment about the same time as I go back to school. I hope I can do it.
