Would you go on Dr. Phil?
« on: March 09, 2011, 05:42:57 PM »
I just sent Dr. Phil an email asking if he would do some research and consider doing a show on Hep C.  Since it is generally felt that the disease doesn't receive enough attention then this seems like a good avenue.   I am sure he would want participants to speak of their journey through the maze of this disease.

It would be great if some of you would also send a message to him encouraging that he do the show...  I used the contact him from his webpage.   It would be nice if he received a lot of emails as soon as possible to see what we have, a community that cares for each other and ones that don't yet know.

You can mention that you know Renee has sent an email requesting him to look into this if you think that might help.   It would be nice if a couple would send an email if both spouses are willing to go on the show and maybe someone with children.

He has a large audience and how knows what good might come of it.  Maybe a lot of GOOD!!

Thanks,
Renee  (ipaq)

Greg I wish Bill Gates would do something and Hope, I do believe Oprah probably has all of her remaining shows booked since this is her last year...  Don't have a clue about her network though since I don't get it...

Please send him an email with your desire for the public to become more aware of what HCV is doing to so many lives..

Today I am going to do some Data entry for a guy and see how my body handles that.  There is so much to do it is overwhelming!

Have a good day Ya All!!!

Yikes! Did 24 wk clinical trial with Lambda Interferon. UND at week 12 & 24. Relapsed after one month. No VL test at weeks 4 & 8. I would get myself tested at week 4 and 8 next time I treat if the doc doesn't order it.

Ipaq,

As usual you have come up with a great idea. It doesn't matter which host show we contact, but just doing any would be worth the try. I know that after three years here on the site not just my experience with diagnosis, pre tx bs with work, bs from work plus tx during tx and returning to work is a story that needs to be told. I would be willing to go on any show and share what I went through and what all of us have gone through.

Let's get it out there. Keep suggesting who else we can contact. We need to share our stories.

Looking back I remember the numbing disbelief that I had this awful disease. When the doctor told me it was get home fast and find out more on the internet.  I knew it was bad but exactly what was I dealing with here. Only to realize what we all know.......and that I didn't have any insurance and live alone.  Scared and feeling helpless how would this work out?  Today I do know the answer but how many more people are in my shoes or going to find themselves there in the near future.

With tx as it stands I am glad to have only the sx that I have now.  When so many others don't fair so well.  How will it be in the future when new drugs come out and people can start feeling better before feeling like they truly might die before it is over.

One thing about the media is one show needs to top the other one..  Get one going and maybe the rest will jump on the band wagon.  Lobbying more than one show might not be the best idea but to literally bombard this show with emails might get his attention.

My situation put me on a trail drug and I am happy for that.  There were only 25 of us in the whole country!  Yet it comes with fears of the even greater unknown with hepc.

So would "you" go on Dr. Phil?  I am thinking most wouldn't, but see how easy it sounds to only send an email..??

I'm just sayin'...

I've been on TV a few times (not national) and enjoyed the experience. To be effective, you need to be able to bring your "A" game while under pressure and that is not something that everyone can do, so if you can contribute in a more peripheral way, go for it! Advocacy comes in many shapes and sizes, the important thing to do is identify your own strengths and limitations and go from there. So if you can write a good letter, then fire away those emails.

Being Canadian would exclude me from Dr. Phil, probably, but I would appear on a show here in a heartbeat if it helped our cause. I've never had a problem with personal disclosure.

You guys are brave!!  I don't know if I would do it but what I do know is that it would be great to see him take this Disease seriously as a show.

Please go to his web site and send an email and with enough emails he may realize there are people that need to know about this.
