Hey guys,

The clinical trial will do a vl 6 mo. post tx (for free of course). Should I have a vl done at 3 mo. through my PCP at my annual

physical? I've got insurance but went to the wrong lab one time and had a $900 bill!! So I'm not sure how much it would be if

I go to the right lab. Any thoughts?

Malissa,

Contact your ins co and ask them which lab and how much for your health plan. I was fortunate that my insurance covered all labs, ct scan, ultra sounds etc. I thought I would as least have to pay a co pay, so I just called the ins co. and asked.

Thx Sue.

Is it even worth finding out the 3 month result or should I just wait for the 6 month result?

Malisa,

If it is affordable and you can do it then why not?  Sooner than later is my motto....

I am on a clinical and they aren't telling me a thing....No 4 weeks UND....Nothing! Not unless it is a medical need.... Do I want to know?  Yes....!!!  I even know that for sure the drug that I am taking is the Real Deal....  Gonna have to ask why they won't tell us the results as we go along.

One more blood test isn't going to hurt you!

If you paid $900.00 I would sure ask. The lab should have told you that your insurance didn't cover you at that lab. I would be raising a fit about that as well.

Hey Malisa,
I have no clue as to the cost but I had the choice of having my PCP do a 3 month vl and opted to just stay blissfully ignorant until the 6 month one was due. That was my personal preference.

the 3 month test is getting more and more use as the SVr indicator, so if you can, i say go for it.  is und at 12 weeks, 98% chance of svr.

and my trial did not give me any info either, so i went out on my own and had vl tests done for my own knowledge.

From my news column in the Aug newsletter....

Sustained Virological Response at 12 Weeks Post-treatment May be as Good as 24 Weeks for Determining Interferon Cure
SUMMARY: People who continue to have undetectable hepatitis C virus (HCV) viral load 12 weeks after completing a course of therapy -- sometimes called SVR-12 -- are as likely to remain free of the virus over the long term as those tested 24 weeks post-treatment, according to a study published in the April 2010 issue of Hepatology. This suggests that clinical trial results 12 weeks after finishing treatment may be an accurate measure of sustained virological response.

Just had the SVR testing conversation with my specialist.  She said it is standard procedure for them to run a 1 month 3 month and 6 month.

So if that is what the doc wants then maybe he/she can give something to the insurance co. to get it approved.
